Background
The story of the Trojan War has become one of the most widely recognized myth-histories by both ancient and modern international audiences, resulting in an unparalleled collection of visual culture (architecture, art, media) spanning thousands of years. This study abroad opportunity introduces students to the magical myth-history of the Trojan War, from the Hellenistic period through modern day interpretations such as Wolfgang Peterson’s iconic film, Troy. We will be visiting the landscapes and cities discussed in famous primary sources, such as The Iliad and The Odyssey, which will connect students with the stories being told and their lasting impact on modern society. All funding for this adventure will go to offset student costs. As our students are primarily self-funded, a donation will help them achieve the integral educational experience of a study abroad!
Student Learning Outcomes/Objectives
Upon completion of the program students will:
• Have an expanded understanding of the impact of the Trojan War on world history
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the design traditions stemming from history and myth-history, as well as their impact on ancient and modern landscapes and cities
• Use a global exposure to make informed decisions about design
• Explain (a) new or different perspective(s) as a result of learning from or with diverse communities or cultures
• Apply previous knowledge or skills to demonstrate comprehension and performance in novel situations
Study Abroad is CRITICAL in helping students engage in world contexts and ideas. Your donation will help our students participate in a once-in-a-lifetime, introducing them to landscapes, design, and culture outside of the United States.
**Funds raised will be used for this project and other related program expenses.**
