The Muncie Food Hub Partnership (MFHP) seeks to nourish and strengthen the Muncie community through the robust exchange of fresh, affordable, locally produced food. MFHP manifests that investment in East Central Indiana food production through business development, education, and civic engagement.
Decades of economic decline have left the Muncie region in an economic crisis: widespread poverty affects 23% of adults and 32% of child residents. Likewise, food insecurity – defined by the USDA as not having access to enough food for an active and healthy life – affects 17% of adults and 25% of children. This is especially troubling for youth in the community who require adequate nutrition to grow, learn, and develop into successful citizens. Addressing food insecurity in our community requires local efforts regarding food exchange. When you purchase produce from the big name grocers, you are often buying produce grown from all across the globe that has taken weeks or even months to travel from source to stomach, racking up a global carbon footprint along the way. The MFHP believes that locally grown produce is a healthier and more sustainable option for our communities in ECI. Our Weekly Produce Donation Program provides a weekly delivery of $150 worth of freshly-picked produce to local community child care facilities, food pantries, and after-school programs free of charge. Local family-owned farms support our partnership by providing freshly picked produce (often picked that day!) for us to purchase and directly donate that week or the next. Our farm partners and local community partners share our deep passion of feeding good food to good people!
Help us meet our goal of $1,500 to provide weekly produce donations to our community partners next season!
Regardless of the amount, your donation to this campaign will contribute to supplying nutritionally rich food options to our Muncie community.
We would like to thank you for your support of the Muncie Food Hub Partnership and our mission to address food insecurity in our community!
**Any additional funds raised will be used for future fund expenses**
You can provide one week's worth of fresh produce to a local Muncie community family by donating an amount of $25! This size of donation mirrors our "Everything but the Turkey" event where we donated pre-packed paper grocery bags full of produce worth $25. This included sweet green peppers, bell pepper, garlic, onions, potatoes, squash, lettuce, kale, green beans, cauliflower and cabbage! That is enough for some delicious week-day side dishes!
For $75, you can support 50% of a weekly produce donation to one of our local community partners. Produce donations are displayed for families and community members to choose and take as much produce as they need. During our market season, we donate to five locations weekly and we are trying to increase that number to SIX weekly donation locations!
By giving $150, your donation will fulfill an entire weekly produce donation order to one of our partnering locations. We partner with local childcare facilities, after-school programs, and community pantries. Your donation will bring smiles and ease hunger for our local Muncie community!
