The Institute for the Study of Political Economy is planning a one-day conference in honor of the intellectual heritage of ISPE’s founding director, Steven Horwitz, who passed away in 2021. We will build upon the intellectual foundations of Dr. Horwitz, our late friend and colleague, including research related to Austrian economic thought, monetary theory, political economy, human progress, and the importance of liberal institutions.
Steve was incredibly optimistic about the roles of liberal institutions and private enterprise in promoting human progress. He argued, in part, the extent of this progress, particularly for the poor and those of traditionally marginalized groups, relies heavily on establishing the correct institutional rules. This conference aims to continue Steve’s thoughtful analysis and exploration of what institutional rules best unleash human flourishing. What better way to honor a valued and respected colleague than to continue building upon his ideas? Researchers who present at this conference will be invited to publish their work in a special issue of an academic journal.
