The World is a Studio! Help CAP Students Discover it

UPDATE: THANK YOU!!!!  WE HAVE SET A NEW GOAL OF $2,000!!!

These extra funds will help students go the extra miles. Help us keep students traveling and experiencing design, community collaboration, and new perspectives with your donation.

Travel experiences enrich lives and broaden personal perspectives. Students and faculty in the Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning take trips annually to expose young minds to the world-at-large. We have been doing so since the college was created. Long before travel abroad became chic, our faculty recognized the importance of exposing interdisciplinary teams of students to world-wide cultures, economies, and environments. The inclusion of these global perspectives adds complexity, reflection, and depth to a student’s creative foundation, their thought process, and their design decisions going forward. As one alumnus reflected on their travel experience, “If I had not gone on the Polyark Field Study tour in 1992, I would not have had the interest nor the courage to accept the opportunity to work internationally.”

Share your travel stories and photos at #captravels. Challenge others to match your level of giving.

In 2016, Professors Les Smith and Rod Underwood took students around the world.   They stopped for a brief moment to take this photo in Helsinki.

Do you remember preparing for a trip in college and the anticipation of seeing the sites you would visit? The comradery formed from the experiences encountered. Do you remember the bonds formed by helping each other, or the feeling of asking for help not knowing the language well, or the success you felt negotiating a deal for souvenirs? These are just a few of the collective memories you share with generations of travelers. These experiences change you for the best. They inform you, they humble you, they make you better.

In 2017, Assistant Professor Kristin Barry took students on a tour of Scandinavia.

Help future students experience the gift of travel.

Each year the cost of travel increases, causing more and more students to opt-out of these valuable opportunities. We are asking you to help students get on that plane, train, or automobile so they can experience the world around them and build new perspectives and lasting memories while earning substantial course credit while traveling. Participate in this crowdfunding campaign to help students – those who really cannot afford any additional expense.

Students need your help.

During the summer of 2019, students traveled around Germany with Instructor Lisa Dunaway and Assistant Professor Natalie Yates.

Please donate today and then mobilize your action by sharing it with your friends and contacts. Next, determine whether you will be a tourist in establishing funding for students or a Diamond member of the travel club. The world is a studio; please help our students continue our collective, deep-rooted commitment to travel and global learning.
