We are extremely excited about the invitation to perform at Dizzy’s Club in NYC on March 23rd of 2020. Getting invited to play at Dizzy’s club is a huge honor for the Ball State Jazz program, all of the students currently in the band and, all of the former students who contributed to this program’s success.
We were invited to play shortly after the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra came to Ball State University October of 2018. The JALC performed with Wynton Marsalis and then did a one-hour clinic with my band. Mr. Marsalis was incredibly gracious with his time. He stayed an extra hour to make sure that everyone in the theatre had a chance to meet him.
This does not happen over our Spring Break so we need to limit the amount of school days missed. Our original plan was to leave via bus on Sunday morning March 22nd from Muncie. We were to get to NYC after a 14 hour trip that cuts Sunday out for any NYC opportunities.
On Monday we have a sound check at Dizzy’s club in the afternoon and two sets that evening with guest artists Ingrid Jensen on trumpet and BSU alumni Akili McDuffy on vocals. We are then set to leave on Tuesday morning for another long bus ride.
We are using this crowd funding campaign so that we may buy airline tickets for the students! A morning flight out of Indianapolis on Sunday would get us there around lunch time. The students would have the whole day to explore NYC and take in what they want.
The band thanks you for your support! (Click link below)
