Send English Education Majors to Baltimore

This November, the English Education Club will be sending approximately 20 students to Baltimore, Maryland for the annual convention for the National Council of Teachers of English. This convention is attended by principals, authors, in-service teachers, pre-service teachers, and book publishers. Our group of pre-service teachers will be inspired by the work of researchers, authors, and English teachers from around the country to discover ideas that they could use in their classrooms, and some even have the opportunity to present their own proposals. Since this is the largest professional conference for English teachers, our members will have the opportunity to network with other English teachers and pre-service teachers to build meaningful connections.

Who's Attending?

Devon is a senior English Education major from Evansville, Indiana and will be part of a roundtable session about the So the Story Goes, an English education conference that she helped create and run last February.

I'm excited to hear new perspectives from presenters that I can take with me into student teaching as well as my career. I hope to find resources to help me build my classroom library, and share my own unique experiences with other attendees. Beyond that, I'm looking forward to spending time getting to know my colleagues in the English Education program better, particularly the newcomers, who I hope I can help in their path to becoming educators.

Megan is a junior English Education major from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I’m excited to gain a deeper understanding of real-time teaching and education. I’m also excited to network and meet new people!

Erin is a senior English Education major from Liberty Township, Ohio and will be part of a roundtable session about the So the Story Goes, an English education conference that she helped create and run last February.

At NCTE this year, I am most looking forward to presenting for the first time at the convention. I’m interested to see what conversations we can have about the conference we worked so hard to create.

Laurinda is a senior English Education major from Liberty, Indiana.

The thing I am most excited about in regard to NCTE is that it would allow me the opportunity to grow and further develop as both a teacher and student, while also allowing me to engage with stakeholders in education.

Ana is a sophomore English Education major from Marion, Indiana.

I'm not presenting at NCTE this year, but I am excited to see what other people have to say so that I can build myself to be the best I can be for my future students!

Emily is a junior English Education major from Schererville, Indiana and will be part of a roundtable session about the So the Story Goes, an English education conference that she helped create and run last February.

What I’m most excited about NCTE is to be surrounded by individuals who share the same love and excitement for teaching as I do!

Help support these students and many more attend the 2019 NCTE Convention in Baltimore, Maryland!
