Over the course of more than 15 years, more than 200 Ball State student teachers have completed their students teaching semester requirement in Germany servicing U.S. military children in Department of Defense Dependent Schools. We are proud of our relationship with the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), as the experience for our student teachers and university faculty is often life-changing. Additionally, we believe we provide meaningful support for classroom teachers and administrators in Europe-East DoDEA schools, at the same time.
Hiring officials aggressively seek to hire our Ball State students, as they see the experience to demonstrate student independence, adaptability, acceptance of change, sense of adventure, creativity, and interest in global issues. It is also a useful recruiting tool, as students come in as freshmen, in part because they aspire to participate in the powerful overseas student teaching experience to support and educate U.S. military children.
All funds will be used to offset the overhead for students participating in this international program. Costs for students to have the ability to live and student teach in Germany include housing on the U.S. military base, transportation between bases, etc.
