Kim Mauger-Lines Debate Team Scholarship

The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to members of the Ball State University Debate Team. In June 2018, we lost a dear member of our Ball State Debate family, Kim Mauger-Lines. In order to honor her legacy we have built this site to fund a scholarship in her name which supports current students and the team.

Moving forward we would like to keep Kim’s legacy alive by continuing to raise funding to perpetually support our team. If you didn’t know Kim let me give you a little insight as to who she was and what she meant to our program.

Kim debated from 1990 - 1994 and was part of Mike Bauer’s first group of students when he arrived on campus. Kim was dedicated to the team. She never missed a practice or a tournament. Kim always helped with researching, cutting cards, and writing briefs. She contributed to our team in a positive and friendly manner. Her biggest career accomplishment was breaking at the CEDA National tournament her Senior year in 1994.

Kim was a fantastic teammate and all-around good person. Ball State Debate was better because she was part of it as a competitor and contributions to the program after she graduated.

After graduating, Kim came back to campus to help Mike Bauer with anything he needed, including judging and coaching. Kim was the most active alumna returning to help the current team. She loved reconnecting with the activity and the program. Most of all, she loved giving back to the students by giving constructive critique after a round or a well-placed piece of coaching advice. The team she helped coach at the NEDA Nationals in Anderson during the 2017 National tournament took home the National Championship.

The Kim Mauger-Lines Scholarship will be awarded to debaters with good character and a strong work ethic, who are good representatives of the team, Ball State, and Kim’s legacy.

Within the last ten years, the Ball State Debate Team has won nine of ten national titles. Every year, the team travels to several universities to compete in tournaments, and consistently Ball State Debate represents the university by winning sweepstakes and team awards. The Ball State Debate Team promotes civic engagement and public advocacy within the community.

This scholarship will help retain and support our debaters and allow them to add to the team’s many successes and contributions to the Ball State community. Debate provides the opportunity for students to compete intellectually at a high level. This scholarship allows the team to give more students a better experience in their college years.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund the scholarships. You can help by contributing today. Each donation is tax deductible and will go a long way to helping not only the students, but the team to remain competitive in the future.

Please read about our recent successes and join us in supporting Ball State debate for years to come.
