What is Ball State Cheerleading?

The Ball State University Cheerleading program consist of 44 members that represent the spirit, pride, and tradition of Ball State University. These Ball State ambassadors represent the university at a more than just athletic events such as; community engagement events, supporting other campus organizations, and alumni programs and events.

Traditionally, we attend UCA College Summer Camp to prepare for our upcoming season. At camp, our team learns a variety of material that will help increase the game day experience for our fans, technique for stunting and pyramids that are performed during games and events, and how to incorporate our school spirit within our campus and community!

Each January, we also have the privilege to compete at UCA Nationals. We compete in the Small Co-Ed Division, in which we placed second last year! Going to nationals not only provides our program with showing off our amazing talent, but also provides us with the opportunity to network with many universities across the United States. College Cheerleading Nationals is equivalent to other sports teams MAC Championships, NCAA Tournaments, or Bowl Games. It gives us an opportunity to compete with the best of the best, and make Ball State known across the world.

These trips provide us with much more than just cheerleading skills, representing our university, and opportunities to network with other universities, but it helps us develop real life skills such as; hard work and dedication, performing under pressure, time management, and teamwork.

Did you know?

•  Our squad members receive no scholarship money. The team represents Ball State because they truly believe in the pride, tradition, and what our university stands for.

• Although we are housed within Ball State Athletics, our program relies heavily on gifts from private donors to ensure that we provide the utmost support for our university.

• Uniforms are not something that is given to us directly from athletics or the university. Gifts provide us with the option to purchase new uniforms, that comes at a large cost. We need to ensure our uniforms correspond with our schools branding, but without our donors, we are unable to make that happen.  

• Private gifts also include food money for our squad members to receive during our trips. Without these gifts, each member would have to pay for food out of their pocket, which could cost them up to an additional $100.
