Dr. Dolon MSW Scholarship Fund

Dr. Dolon is a gift to our social work community and his legacy lives on through your generous donations to our campaign. We are grateful for your support of him through the MSW gerontology scholarship. For 50 years, Dr. Dolon has led by example and taught hundreds of students how to practice, treat others with dignity, and find humor in a life around him. We celebrate this lasting legacy of generosity and inspiration through a graduate scholarship that supports his life's work with elders.

This scholarship is being established in recognition of Dr. Dolon's contributions to Ball State, the department, and students throughout his career. He joined the faculty in 1971 and has been teaching students the fundamental skills needed to practice social work throughout his time within the department. Nearly every graduate of our BSW program has had Dr. Dolon at some point in their time in the major. This fund will be used to provide financial assistance to students in our graduate MSW program who choose to focus on working with older adults.

Dr. Dolon earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western University in 1969, MSW from University of Denver in 1969 and EdD from Ball state University in 1977. His past practice experience included: Older Adult Caseworker, School Social Worker, Child Welfare Worker, Caseworker Supervisor, Staff Development Consultant, Personnel Office, Mental Health Consultant, and Adult Protective Services Investigator. His research focuses on interpersonal violence, humor as stress management, and older adults. Dr. Dolon has taught many classes over the years and his favorites include Social Work Practice I, Intervention in Family Violence, and Intervention with Older Adults. His hobby is providing grief counseling for Chicago Bear fans.
